The dome of this house was built to keep the house’s thermostat high

Norway is a beautiful country with amazing nature and unique landscape. But the country has bad climatic conditions. Especially in the north, there are temperature drops in winter, which is why residents have to look for alternative ways of heating. The Jartefelger family recently moved to the arctic climate on the island of Sandhornoja. Realizing how expensive heating would cost them in , they decided to build a house under a glass dome. This is not the first such project that is applied to life in the far north.

The Jartefelger family is committed to sustainable products and materials. Therefore, the house was built exclusively from natural building materials. Clay mixed with salom was used for the foundation and walls. All doors and windows are made of wood, and the tiles in the bathroom and in the kitchen are made from fragments and crushed cobblestones from the local beach. A ventilation system has been constructed along the foundations of the house, which heats the house in winter and cools the house in summer.

In addition to the house, there is 80 square meters of land under the dome, where the family grows fruits and vegetables. All waste is processed into fertilizers, and the water is filtered and re-circulated using a special plumbing system. The total area of the house is 180 square meters and includes three floors.

On the top floor there is an open terrace under the dome, where you can relax both in winter and in summer. It is especially beautiful on the terrace at night, when you can watch the stars and the northern lights. The house has a living room, a spacious kitchen, a bathroom and five bedrooms, as there are four children in the family. This beautiful and unusual house is heated with solar panels, the heat from which spreads both inside the house and around it under the dome. This house has become a completely new and practical solution for living in a cold climate. The family did not regret that they spent so much time and money on its construction
