English architect and artist Aleks Chinneck masters the art of distorting reality and presenting the imaginary as real. It is impossible to believe that everything exists in reality. His work is illusory. His very first work is a destroyed building with broken glass. It’s actually a brand new apartment building. If you look closely, then all 300 windows are embossed in exactly the same way, or rather, they are not embossed. In fact the cracks are drawn. Inspired by the success of his work, Chinnek turned an empty house in the center of London into an optical illusion a year later. He made a bricked façade that seems to melt and slide down.
The work was very extraordinary. The house immediately became the center of attention of all residents of the city. Chinnek worked on this house for a long time. He did the facade at two factories. On one, bricks of the required thickness were cut for it, and window frames were made on the second. All this he glued onto a curved metal layer and glued to the facade of the house. This creates the impression that the wall is sliding down.
Perhaps the most famous work of Aleks Chinneck is a house in Covent Garden, which seems to be floating in the air. This house was created by the author in 2014 and not long before that, a Chinnek specially bought a property to bring his idea to life. The illusion is created due to columns, most of which are destroyed.
The front wall of the house is also half destroyed, so it seems that the house is hanging in the air. Тo strengthen the house not to fall , he hid counterweight reinforcement in the structure, which is masked by a harmless green booth. In the same way, he created his unique work with a car that hangs upside down from a diving board.
Chinnek is a talented architect who is also called an illusionist. Unfortunately, all of his installations are temporary and after a while they can only be seen from photographs. According to the author’s words, he does not put any ideas into his works and does not try to convey anything specific to the society. He just does what he likes and also likes to see how people react when they see his creations.
