An orphaned baby elephant was comforted by an ostrich. Now these two are constantly hugging.

More than once we wrote about the unusual friendship between different species of animals. So today we have prepared an article that will surprise you, because we will talk about an elephant and an ostrich, who are so intermarried that now they hug all the time.

An elephant named Giotto was still a month old when he strayed from the herd and accidentally fell into a well. Fortunately, employees of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT), which is located in Kenya, found and pulled it out. Giotto was sent to other elephants, where he was supposed to recuperate and recover. And then it was planned to release it to the wild. But how could the workers of the center imagine that of all the elephants present, Giotto would make friends … with an ostrich!

The bird’s name is Pea, she was also rescued by the employees of this organization back in 2014. But she did not want to leave the center, and she remained to live with the elephants.

“We can say with confidence that the orphaned ostrich Pea considers herself part of the elephant herd, and Giotto is also happy, because he can hug his feathered friend with pleasure,” such a message appeared on the shelter’s website. “The Nairobi Nursery provides excellent living conditions for these two orphans, as well as many other animals, here they can live until they get stronger and are ready to return to the wild.”

Giotto and Pea became best friends! Pea cuddles up to the baby elephant to help him settle in.

“… Giotto is also happy, because he can hug his feathered girlfriend with pleasure.”
